Sophia Albanaa has focused her efforts on the well-being of New Brunswick residents and beyond and plays a positive role model for students, peers, and the community at large. After joining the Advancing Community Development Program at the Rutgers’ Collaborative Center for Community-Based Research and Service, she and fellow members collaborated with Johnson & Johnson and emergency food providers to develop a guide for a culturally-appropriate food pantry in New Brunswick. She served 300 hours of community work as an AmeriCorps Bonner Leader, tutors Upward Bound students, and mentors at the Middlesex County College’s EMPOWER Program. Her empathy and commitment to supporting local communities and various cultural groups has earned her the Champion of Diversity and Inclusion Award.
