Matt Fontanilla
This honoree embodies the term “student-athlete” and worked hard as an international student to overcome the language barrier and culture when they arrived on the banks. They have since established themself as the best swimmer to come through the program since the mid-2000’s. A school record holder in two individual events – the 100 and 200 backstroke – and as part of two relays – the 400 freestyle and the 400 medley – they recently became the first swimmer to medal for Rutgers in the Big Ten Championships‚ doing it not only once, but twice in 2019.
