Miranda is the Artistic Director for the Livingston Theatre Company’s current season. As part of LTC’s initiative of reinvention, they decided to use one of the production slots, formerly used for a 24-hour musical, to put on Lin Manuel Miranda’s 21 Chump Street. Miranda not only directed this production but also organized the event as a fundraiser for the New Jersey Institute for Social Justice. This organization fights the mass incarceration of people of color due to low level crimes such as drug possession. The programming united LTC with a nationally accredited social justice organization and also organized a reception afterwards with Hidden Gems Literary Emporium, a black owned local business in New Jersey, and the Latino Student Council here at Rutgers.
