As the governing body of all Asian Pacific Islander Desi American (APIDA) students at Rutgers University New Brunswick, building community is a critical component of ASC and directly impacts how it may support students on topics ranging from advocacy initiatives, intercultural collaboration, and diversity and inclusion. ASC’s goal this year was to encourage cultural organizations of different ethnic backgrounds to interact with each other. ASC fostered relationships with 9 cultural student organizations and had them charter with ASC. ASC co-sponsored 24 events, providing marketing and publicity, attendance, and additional event funding. Through these events, ASC also promoted the opportunity for other organizations to attend events of their peers and build authentic friendships and working relationships, leading to a more united APIDA community at Rutgers.
